Why I Started Simply Affinity / About Me

Hello everyone! My name is Evie, and I am the owner of Simply Affinity. My passion for gems started at an early age. When I was very young, my family and I lived in the state of Florida.

I was kind of a tomboy. I loved the outdoors and running around barefoot – my dad called me Mowgli – like the character from the Jungle Book.

When I was on school breaks, my family and I would vacation in our favorite place, the North Georgia mountains.

On our trips, I would find beautiful quartz pieces that I would bring home with me. Of course, my bag coming home ended up being twice as heavy – filled with rocks! One trip, my parents even took me “gem mining.” To this day, I still have those gems!

Gems I found when I went “gem mining” in Helen, Georgia as a little girl.

When I was 8, we moved to our vacation spot in North Georgia – for which I am truly grateful!

At age 14, I started working at a shop that carried jewelry with semi-precious stones. As I got older, I started helping out at yearly gem shows, where I met amazing vendors. These experiences further grew my passion for gems.

When I was a senior in high school, I realized that I needed a way to channel my creativity. So, alongside painting, I started making jewelry.

As I delved into making gemstone jewelry, I realized that my favorite part of the entire process was working with gems. At this point, I understood the meaning of Simply Affinity – finding something you simply, love – something that you are passionate about!

Fast forward 4 years, and my graduation from college was fast-approaching, I was trying to answer that simple question that everyone seems to ask when they know that you are about to graduate: “What are you going to do after college?”

I was not really sure. All I knew was that my end goal was to work on Simply Affinity full time, but I also knew how risky not having a steady income could be.

However, I decided to follow my passion, and follow my dream.

Through my shop, I am able to do something I love and also brighten other people’s day.

My biggest hope for Simply Affinity is to inspire others to create and also follow their dreams.

I have found that success is NOT about how much money you make. Instead, success is about how much love and happiness you have in your life, and the love and happiness that you can spread to others.

I originally wrote this post 5 days before I graduated from college, and I am happy to say that I am still just as passionate about gems and this incredible business! I am editing this post as a newlywed and an excited entrepreneur that is FINALLY creating her own website!

Here is to a new chapter in the journey of my little shop, and I am so happy that you are along for the ride!

Much love, Evie

Evie, I am so happy to see you being able to continue your entrepreneurial and creative journey. Congratulations! I do not know how long this post has been online, but for some reason I suddenly had a need to search and see if you were still carrying on with your gem business. What a wonderful story.
